Saint Peter's University Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of central New Jersey for more than a century. From our simple beginnings in 1907, Saint Peter's has grown to become a technologically advanced, 478-bed teaching hospital that provides a broad array of services to the community. Saint Peter's University Hospital, a member of the Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, is a non-profit, acute care facility sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.

Saint Peter's brings the latest medical practices and highly skilled professionals to the bedside. We treat more than 30,000 inpatients and more than 200,000 outpatients annually. We employ 2,800 healthcare professionals and support personnel, and more than 900 physicians and dentists have privileges at our facility.

As a state-designated acute care children's hospital, we offer a full range of specialized pediatric healthcare services, including one of the most sophisticated maternity programs, delivering as many as 6,100 newborns annually. The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital operates one of the largest and most advanced neonatal intensive care units in the country as part of the hospital’s state-designation as a Regional Perinatal Center.

Saint Peter’s offers cancer care for both adults and children, including inpatient care and outpatient radiation and infusion services. Since 1985, our cancer program has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program, and most recently, became the first hospital in central New Jersey and the second in the state to earn accreditation for its breast cancer services.

In 2009, Saint Peter’s University Hospital was designated a primary stroke center by the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services. A primary stroke center is the first line of defense in diagnosing and treating strokes and preventing or minimizing permanent brain damage.

In support of our mission to provide quality medical education, Saint Peter's is a regional medical campus of Drexel University College of Medicine, the largest private medical school in the nation. Saint Peter’s also sponsors residency programs in internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics that are approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Saint Peter's is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and was the tenth hospital in the nation to be designated as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 1998. Today, we are one of only six hospitals in the world to have achieved this honor for a fourth consecutive term. As the “gold standard” of nursing care, the Magnet Award is the highest honor given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
