Obesity is a significant public health problem in our country today–about one-third of adults age 20 and older are overweight and nearly one-third more are obese. Obesity is the second-most-frequent cause of preventable death, after smoking, and it can cause or contribute to many serious medical conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, sleep apnea, degenerative joint disease and certain cancers.
Saint Peter's University Hospital's bariatric surgery team is led by Nicholas Bertha, DO, FACS, a board-certified surgeon with special training and expertise in advanced laparoscopy, bariatrics and endoluminal surgery. In 12 years, he has completed over 6,500 weight loss procedures on individuals from age 18 to 70.
Seminars are held monthly. Dr. Nicholas Bertha will discuss the various surgical procedures available (Adjustable Gastric Banding, Gastric Bypass, and Gastric Sleeve), their respective advantages, the insurance process, and share patients’ success stories.
Please contact Lisa K. Lapinski, MBA, RD, Bariatric Nutritionist, at (732) 745-8600 ext 8159 to register for an upcoming seminar.
