For many women who have had routine mammograms, Saint Peter’s is a familiar place offering the peace of mind this important preventive healthcare screening brings.
Saint Peter’s Breast Center was central New Jersey’s first facility specializing in breast care to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Saint Peter’s Women’s Imaging Center, located in the Center for Ambulatory Resources, is accredited by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence—not just for mammography, but also for stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Saint Peter’s offers screening and diagnostic mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), interventional and diagnostic ultrasounds, MRI-guided breast biopsies and fine-needle aspirations for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. All these services are performed and/or reviewed by a dedicated team of radiologists and technologists, who are highly experienced in women’s imaging.

Screening and Diagnostic Mammography Services
A variety of comprehensive breast and osteoporosis studies are performed at The Women’s Imaging Center at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Our facility is certified by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and all our technologists are ARRT certified in mammography. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and one Saturday a month for screening mammograms. We also welcome walk-in appointments for screening mammograms Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Our modern facility and newly redesigned registration area ensure the comfort and ease of care of our patients.
Your mammogram is read by a board certified radiologist with specialty training in breast imaging and processed through a CAD (computer-aided detection) system, to highlight abnormal areas, giving the radiologist a second pair of eyes.
We provide state-of-the-art screening mammography and diagnostic mammography services using Hologic Full Field Digital Mammography systems with computer-aided detection. Digital mammography facilitates early detection of breast cancer and allows for treatment at these early stages. The technique of digital mammography is similar to traditional film-screen mammography in that the positioning of the patient is the same. However, the way in which the image is produced and stored is completely different. A digital image is taken and easily visualized, within seconds, by the technologist. We utilize a PACS system (picture archiving and communication system) to store the mammography images which are easily accessed using a computer.
