The treatments are pain-free and noninvasive, typically performed as an outpatient procedure in the CyberKnife Center, adjacent to Radiation Oncology. Depending on the complexity of the delivery, each session ranges from 30 to 90 minutes long with the average treatment plan requiring as few as one to five sessions. Comparatively, radiation therapy treatments are an average of 15 minutes long, requiring as many as 30 to 45 sessions.
Treatment with the CyberKnife System also has a reduced risk of post-treatment complications such as infections, hemorrhages and loss of hearing or feeling occasionally associated with conventional surgery.
In fact, many patients who have already reached the lifetime dose limit of traditional radiation therapy to critical structures/tissues can receive additional treatment with CyberKnife.
