Autism Community Golf Outing

Saint Peter's Foundation present Community Golf Outing & Networking Reception on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, NJ. Benefiting The Autism Program at The Children's Hospital at Saint Peter's University Hospital.

A lifelong neurological condition, autism affects one in every 49 children in New Jersey. Last year the Centers for Disease Control released the results of a study that showed an alarming increase in the number of New Jersey children diagnosed with autism. The study, which tracked autism in 14 states, showed that the rate of autism in New Jersey had doubled in six years, placing New Jersey second only to Utah. Like other chronic conditions, autism affects whole families. At The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, we use a hands-on, multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of symptoms that goes beyond prescribing medications. At Saint Peter’s, educational and emotional support are also available to caregivers. We also ensure that our pediatric residents and medical students are trained in the latest techniques for early identification of children with Autism.

At The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, we are family-centered and understand the needs of a child with autism and the people around them. Using state-of-the-art technical assessments that incorporate ADI (Autism Diagnostic Interview), we develop a clearer picture of which treatment strategies to follow. In addition to our ongoing research, we are currently working with Rutgers University to discover the link to the genetics of autism as well as working with Drexel College of Medicine in Philadelphia and the National Institute of Health. Our goal is to support everyone who interacts with a child with autism: parents, siblings, pediatricians, nurses, teachers and more - all to help them better handle the day-to-day situations that may arise.

The proceeds of this year’s event will strengthen Saint Peter’s commitment to those with autism as well as their families. With your support, we will continue to expand the treatment and educational programs we offer and develop new services to better support those in need.
