The Memory Center is an outpatient primary care service offering
comprehensive testing for those concerned about their memory. Over the
course of three visits, geriatric specialists conduct a complete
physical examination that includes a routine memory screening, and
administer a computerized test designed to assess cognitive skills. Test
results with recommendations for treatment are discussed with the
patient and their family, and a report is sent to the referring
physician. Patients return for three- or six-month follow-up
appointments, depending on their diagnosis and treatment plan.
The Memory Center uses the MindStreams® Computerized Impairment Test
to assess cognitive performance in the areas of recall, executive
function, visual spatial perception, verbal function, attention,
information processing speed and motor skills. MindStreams measures a
patient’s performance on a series of interactive tasks such as word pair
recognition, depth perception, decision making and memorization.
Reaction times are measured in milliseconds, and results are compared to
those of the patient’s peer group, determined by age and education
level.
The Memory Center is a service of Saint Peter’s University Hospital.
