As a leading program in the state, the Division of Neonatal – Perinatal Medicine at The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital provides comprehensive Level 3 care for critically ill newborns and premature infants in Central New Jersey and from the surrounding hospitals.
A staff of 13 board certified neonatologist offers a variety of services to referring physicians including outreach, consultation, transport, delivery room services and inpatient intensive care. In our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), our staff cares for close to 1,300 newborns every year, including hundreds of very low-birth weight infants and newborns transported from hospitals throughout the area.
Vermont Oxford Network
The NICU is proud to be a part of the Vermont-Oxford Network, a collaborative of healthcare providers dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical care for infants and their families. The Network maintains a database of information about the care and outcomes of high-risk newborn infants that provides unique, reliable and confidential data to the more than 900 participating NICUs around the world for use in quality management, process improvement, internal audit and peer review
Our NICU also participates in the Network's NIC/Q and iNICQ Quality Improvement Collaboratives for Neonatology consisting of multidisciplinary improvement teams working together to identify and implement better practices aimed at achieving measurable improvements in quality and safety.
