Members of the Rutgers University men’s baseball team visited The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital on Friday, May 31, to donate more than $6,000 in support of childhood blood and cancer programs at the hospital. Rutgers players raised more than $13,000 for those charitable goals by shaving their heads after a home game held early last month against the University of Connecticut. The remainder of the funds was given to the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to saving children’s lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer treatments. Pictured are: standing, left to right, Rutgers players Nate Roe, Rob Smorol, Steve Zavala, and Tyler Gebler; kneeling, players Rob Corsi, Jeff Melillo, patient Leila Hunter, 7, of Trenton, patient Cody Enos, 19, of Flemington, and player Sam Hasty. Each is holding an autographed baseball signed by the players for children in the hospital.
