Care Center Celebrating 25 Years of Serving the Aged, Medically Needy

Somerset, N.J. (January 30, 2013) - Opened in 1988, the Margaret McLaughlin McCarrick Care Center, the official nursing home of the Diocese of Metuchen, is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout all of 2013.

The 120-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility is a member of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System and “is a part of the system’s organization that focuses on providing the highest quality rehabilitation and long-term care services to central New Jersey’s elderly,” said Jim Zauner, McCarrick administrator. “The resources available through the hospital system are second to none. For example, a full-time geriatric physician is overseeing the care of the residents on-site,” Zauner added.

The Rev. Tom Ganley, McCarrick’s chaplain, noted that McCarrick’s mission statement - “to provide services to meet the spiritual, physical, social and psychological needs of our residents … to care for all the residents as if they are our family” – has remained true for a full quarter of a century.

“The idea of ‘family,’” Ganley said, “is exhibited in the spirit of pastoral care provided to all of our residents of every faith and belief through the dedicated work of the McCarrick staff. We are proud of the quality, compassionate, religious-based care that we have delivered for 25 years. That is a credit to all those who work so hard to make McCarrick such a wonderful place. May God shine his blessings on us. Here is to another 25 years.”

McCarrick residents have access to a broad array of professional health services. McCarrick’s clinical programs are overseen by an experienced team of administrative and nursing professionals supported by a full-time geriatric physician and nurse practitioner, social workers, a registered dietician, an activities director, specially trained nurses, and certified assistants.

Services include: 24-hour skilled/sub-acute nursing services; physician services in all specialties; stroke rehabilitation; general surgery care; pain management; wound care/ostomy care; palliative and hospice care; tracheostomy care; respiratory care; IV therapy; cardiac care; post-orthopedic care; TPN therapy; Alzheimer’s care and memory support; dietitian and personalized meal planning, and social work services, including family counseling and discharge planning.
