Six Tips for Grilling Healthier
Summer is grilling season, the time to leave the indoor kitchen for the barbecue grill.
For a healthier experience, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests these tips found in the Saint Peter's Better Health Library:

  1. Grill meat slowly at a lower temperature, rather than searing over high heat. Charring can trigger formation of cancer-causing compounds.
  2. Trim away fat before grilling meat.
  3. Marinate meat for at least 30 minutes before grilling. Good marinades include vinegar, citrus juice, beer, wine or green tea.
  4. For a healthier meal, grill tomatoes, onions, squash, mushrooms, pineapple, peppers or veggie burgers.
  5. Throw out any leftover marinade.
  6. Keep your grill clean.
