Should a diagnosis discloses a non-life threatening condition, our
doctors treat it quickly and thoroughly, while providing the assurances a
patient may need to regain their sense of well-being.
For serious medical conditions, Saint Peter's Breast Center relies on
a multi-disciplinary approach to determine the care and treatment
protocol that will provide the best possible outcome. In such cases, we
assign a "team" consisting of radiation oncologists, reconstructive
surgeons, geneticists, cancer researchers and nurses — whose knowledge
and skills are shared and integrated into a comprehensive, customized
treatment program. The team then meets regularly to monitor the
patient's response to each facet of treatment and to make any required
adjustments.
In the event surgery becomes necessary, the options available depend
on a number of factors, including the type of tumor, the extent of the
disease at the time of diagnosis, your age and medical history.
Based on a thorough analysis of these factors, Saint Peter's Breast
Center will help you decide which of the following procedures offers you
the best possible outcome.
- Excisional breast biopsy
- Lumpectomy/partial mastectomy/quadrantectomy
- Balloon-catheter (targeted) radiation (MammoSite®)
- Mastectomy (with or without breast reconstruction)
- Skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Axillary dissection
- Drainage of breast abscesses
- Nipple duct excision
