Patient Services

All patients receive the following services:

  1. Complete intake of developmental, behavioral, medical, and treatment histories, with a focus on pressing family and patient concerns.
  2. Standardized neurodevelopmental examination and baseline behavioral assessment.
  3. Targeted referral and tiered diagnostic testing, developmental surveillance, medical management, and monitoring of progress.
  4. Care coordination with primary care physicians, medical specialists and community providers.
  5. Family support services include parent advocate group through an affiliation with Autism Family Services of New Jersey. The family support service helps families understand the recommendations for school services and provides information about community programs and case management services. 

The Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Program also conducts continuing education activities for medical and allied health professionals, community organizations, and parent groups. In addition, the program has partnered with local advocacy My Goal Autism.org to provide monthly support groups, lecture series, and family counseling and and stress management activities at Saint Peter’s.


In addition, The Children’s Hospital collaborates with Rutgers University on a number of research projects on autism. The Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center at Rutgers is a leader in graduate student training in applied behavioral analysis, autism research, and services for the developmentally disabled.
