As professional nurses, our every action is guided by knowledge, enabled by skill and motivated by compassion. Patients are our primary focus, and the way we deliver care reflects that focus every day. We believe in creating a practice environment that has no barriers, is built on the spirit of inquiry and reflects a culturally competent professional nursing staff supportive of the patient-focused values of this institution.
Nursing at Saint Peter's University Hospital has been in existence since we began to serve the community more than 100 years ago. We have a rich history and well-established reputation for high-quality nursing care delivered by talented, competent, well-educated professional nurses and skillful support staff. For decades we have demonstrated a Magnet culture of excellence, and since 1998 we have officially been designated a Magnet hospital, which is the highest nationally recognized honor a hospital can achieve for nursing excellence and quality. In 2016, Saint Peter's became only the fifth in the world to earn re-designation as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. It is Saint Peter's fifth consecutive, four-year designation earned from the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association. We also were awarded – for the third consecutive time – the prestigious Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, which recognizes the nation’s top critical care units.
Our thoughts, decisions and actions are guided by our values. Our Collaborative Professional Practice Model demonstrates our vision. As clinicians, we ensure that our practice is caring, innovative, scientific and empowering, and is based on a foundation of leadership and entrepreneurial teamwork.
We focus intensely on nursing education and provide compensation for BSN to doctoral programs, for evidence-based practice and for delivering high-quality patient outcomes. More than 60% of our nurses are nationally certified.
Much is expected of the nurses at Saint Peter's University Hospital, but the highest expectation is that they lead with their hearts.
