Nayan Kothari, MD, MACP, FRCP, (Edin), FACR

Dr. Kothari is a board certified internist and rheumatologist. He is a leading educator and was a member of Step 2 Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Kothari was a member of the Test Developing Committee of the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates from 1996 to 2003. He has received several teaching awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Drexel University College of Medicine, and The Edward J. Ill Outstanding Medical Education Award from the Excellence in Medicine Foundation, and the Academic Award from the Middlesex County Medical Society. Most recently he received the Mastership from the American College of Physicians. Prior to 2005, Dr. Kothari directed the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Internal Medicine Residency Program for 17 years.
 

Pitchumoni

Dr. Pitchumoni is associate program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Clinical Nutrition. He has more than four decades of teaching experience and has been recognized as an excellent teacher by students, residents, and fellows in Gastroenterology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition, and has a Master’s Degree in Public Health. He is adjunct professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and clinical professor of Medicine at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Drexel University College of Medicine. He has been nationally recognized by American College of Physicians as well as American College of Gastroenterology with Mastership of the colleges. He has authored over 200 publications and 100 chapters in various textbooks. His research in the field of pancreatic diseases is recognized by various professional organizations and he is on the editorial board of a number of journals. He has edited four major text books in gastroenterology. Dr. Pitchumoni came to Saint Peter’s University Hospital in 2002 after many years of experience in teaching, research, and administration at New York Medical College.
David Alcid, MD, MACP, FIDSA

David Alcid, MD, MACP, FIDSA

Dr. Alcid is a board certified internist and infectious disease specialist. He attained his medical doctorate degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency from the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases from SUNY Health Science Center. Dr. Alcid is also one of a few physicians in the Northeast United States who is accredited in Tropical Medicine and Traveler’s Health. He has done extensive research on Schistosomiasis during his stay in Malawi, East Africa. His interests lie in Parasitology, and discovering new diagnostic lab methods for various infectious illnesses and emerging pathogens. Dr. Alcid has authored several papers with residents and other faculty members during his time as an associate program director. He continues to be an integral faculty member and an endearing mentor to many residents and students.
 

Dr. Balaji Yegneswaran M.D., F.A.C.P.
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency, Saint Peter’s University Hospital

Dr. Yegneswaran is the associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, a critical care consultant and physician advisor at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. He received his medical degree from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), India, and trained in Internal Medicine at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. He completed his Critical Care training from the Multidisciplinary Critical Care Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a board certified intensivist and an internist. He is an integral part of Saint Peter’s residency program and is actively involved in resident and medical student education. Being a former alumnus, Dr. Yegneswaran is a strong advocate for resident welfare and all-around development. He has extensive research experience and has numerous abstracts and publications to his name including the development of the STOP-BANG questionnaire which is a widely used predictive tool for sleep apnea.

 

Dr Ranna

Haris Rana, MD
Associate Program Director, Pulmonology Fellowship, Saint Peter’s University Hospital
Dr. Rana completed his Internal Medicine training and chief residency in the Atlantic Health System in New Jersey. He completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he also served as a chief fellow. He has board certifications in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. In addition to being part of the Saint Peter's University Hospital Internal Medicine Medical Teaching Service (MTS), Dr. Rana functions as chair of the Internal Medicine Residency Clinical Competency Committee. His administrative responsibilities include serving as chair of the Sepsis Committee. He has also operated as an associate program director in Internal Medicine. Dr. Rana is passionate about patient care and medical education. He works closely with residents offering mentorship at a one-to-one level. Dr. Rana oversees resident participation in administrative and education committees as well as in quality improvement projects. He is heavily involved in providing simulation training for residents, medical students, and hospital personnel.
