Saint Peter’s joins Healogics to raise awareness about chronic wounds
Wound Care Awareness Week is June 2 through 6 in cities nationwide

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, a member of the Healogics Inc. network, is participating in the first Healogics National Wound Care Awareness Week from June 2 through June 6.  One of nearly 600 Healogics-managed centers in the nation, Saint Peter’s Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services – with locations in New Brunswick and Monroe - offers advanced therapies for patients suffering from chronic wounds.  Wound care center directors across the nation will dedicate the entire week to visiting area physician offices to provide education to help staff identify patients who may benefit from advanced wound care.

Chronic wounds affect millions of people in the United States and the incidence is rising, experts say, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and the late effects of radiation therapy.  Untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possible amputation of affected limbs.

“There are many patients living with non-healing wounds who are unaware of treatments available in their local communities,” said D. Scott Covington, M.D., chief medical director for Healogics Inc.  Covington added: “Adjunctive therapies for appropriate patients can help heal wounds faster than traditional methods.  We want to make advanced wound care available to all patients who would benefit, but we must educate the communities we serve about the services we offer.”

People with wounds that have not improved in four weeks with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to Saint Peter’s University Hospital Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services in New Brunswick or Monroe.  To schedule an appointment, please call Saint Peter’s Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Services in New Brunswick at (732) 846-6199 or in Monroe at (609) 860-0008.
