Surgery

Among the surgical procedures offered at Saint Peter's are adult and pediatric neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, and minimally invasive surgeries, including Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS), a technique to diagnose and treat lung cancer. We also offer a number of surgical procedures for women's health.

Few hospitals in the area offer the wide array of neonatal and pediatric surgical services provided at The Children's Hospital at Saint Peter's University Hospital. These include craniofacial-neurosurgery for children born with facial abnormalities such as cleft lip and cleft palate, as well as procedures to treat epilepsy and brain tumors.

Other surgical services offered at Saint Peter's include:

  • Colorectal

  • Ear, nose and throat (ENT)

  • General

  • Gynecological

  • Oncological

  • Plastic and reconstructive

  • Urological

  • Vascular and endovascular.

When surgery is the recommended course of treatment, doctors at Saint Peter's University Hospital may use a variety of state-of-the-art technologies and techniques appropriate for the patient and the procedure to minimize blood loss, such as intraoperative cell salvage, which calls for cleaning blood that remains in constant circulation. Following surgery, blood loss is minimized and blood production enhanced through medication, nutrition therapy and the use of technology. Blood also can be collected postoperatively from the patient and processed without leaving the patient's body. Learn more about Saint Peter’s Bloodless Medicine program.
