Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition in children and adults. It is a seizure disorder that results from the generation of electrical signals inside the brain, causing recurring seizures. Seizure symptoms vary. Some people with epilepsy simply stare blankly for a few seconds during a seizure while others have full-fledged convulsions.

The Epilepsy Center at Saint Peter’s treats both children and adults. It’s a Level 4 epilepsy center which is the highest rating from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. Neurologists at Saint Peter’s use video electroencephalogram (EEG) to help make a direct correlation to brain wave patterns and external signs of seizures, and to rule out other disorders such as abnormal heart rhythm or sleep disorders. The Center’s full-time, dedicated, specially trained staff provides the most complete range of evaluative and surgical treatments for epilepsy available today.
