Common Diagnosis We Treat

Low Back Pain/Sciatica/Sacroiliac Joint Pain – A majority of people suffer low back pain at some point in their life. Common symptoms include achiness in low back with prolonged sitting, sharp pain with movement/bending forward, diffuse pain in low back, sharp pain into buttocks. Physical therapy will look at your range of motion, strength, flexibility and joint mobility and discuss your goals to develop a plan that is easy to follow and specifically designed to make you feel better.

Concussion – Our Concussion Team includes a sports medicine physician, athletic trainer, social worker and specially trained physical therapists. In physical therapy, your physical therapist will evaluate each body system that is contributing to your concussion symptoms. We assess your Oculomotor system, Vestibular system, and Musculoskeletal system including joint mobility, soft tissue mobility, strength and range of motion. We use our specific findings to determine the most appropriate course of action for you. The team works very closely with each other to help you get back to your activities as soon as possible.

Muscle/Ligament Sprains/Strains – Whether it is your knee, ankle or shoulder, our expert clinicians will fully evaluate you, assessing your range of motion, flexibility, strength, joint mobility and function in order to design a personalized treatment plan to help you reach your personal goals.

Herniated Discs – Both cervical and lumbar disc herniations are routinely treated at Saint Peter’s Sports Medicine Institute. Common symptoms may include: numbness and tingling down arm/legs, sharp/shooting pain down arms/legs, pain around shoulder blade, buttock pain, pain behind knee, limited ability to move, stiffness, and pain. Your physical therapist will assess your range of motion, flexibility, joint mobility, strength and function to develop a personalized treatment program that will help you feel better.

Knee Pain – Whether it is chronic or acute pain, ligament or muscle related, our expert physical therapists will fully listen to your symptoms and evaluate the knee joint looking at mobility, flexibility, range of motion, strength as well as the way you squat, walk and move to develop a comprehensive treatment program to get you on the road to recovery.

Rotator Cuff Tear/Tendonitis/Impingement – Shoulder injuries are very commonly treated at Saint Peter’s Sports Medicine. Whether you are avoiding surgery for a rotator cuff tear, have fallen, just had surgery, or have had a nagging pain in your shoulder for weeks when exercising, your expert physical therapist will complete a one hour evaluation in which range of motion, flexibility, joint mobility and strength are evaluated. From this information, an individualized treatment program will be implemented to help you reach your goals.

Your physical therapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation and get you started on the road to recovery at your very first visit.

Women’s Health – These issues, like urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse, are very common. They are also often embarrassing to those who have them and are often under-reported. We offer private rooms and compassionate care to help women return to the activities they have been avoiding due to their symptoms. A full evaluation is performed by a specially trained female physical therapist, looking at hips, core, low back and pelvic floor. This information is put together for a comprehensive treatment plan that will lead you back to the life you want to live!
