Telegenetic Appointments

TeleGenetics is a Telehealth service at Saint Peter’s specifically designed to provide genetic counseling, genetic-metabolic dietician counseling for inborn errors of metabolism, and, when appropriate, genetic evaluation and consultation. 

Providers at Saint Peter’s have the ability to provide remote patient consultations or counseling using secure telecommunication technology that is HIPAA/Hi-Tech compliant and convenient. The technology allows providers to meet face-to-face with patients in a virtual appointment to discuss healthcare concerns or monitor a patient’s needs while reducing travel time and expenses. Patients can access our free Saint Peter’s Telemedicine mobile application from any mobile device (phone or tablet) that is Wi-F-enabled and has a camera, speaker and microphone.

The TeleGenetic Appointment
TeleGenetics may not be an appropriate solution for all referral indications, which is why patients wishing to be scheduled for a TeleGenetic Appointment are pre-screened and triaged to ensure this service is the right option for them.  To determine whether a patient meets criteria for TeleGenetic services, please contact our intake coordinator at 732.339.7481.

Once an appointment has been scheduled:

  1. Our intake coordinator will send an email that includes a few electronic forms, which the patient should complete at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled virtual appointment.   These forms can be completed electronically without the need to print, scan, or fax back.  This initial email serves as the first appointment reminder.  If documents are not completed in the requested time, the appointment will automatically be cancelled.
    1. The electronic forms sent include a pre-registration form, medical record release form, and a detailed history packet.
  2. Once all electronic forms have been submitted, a second email is sent to the patient from the Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, “Virtual Care Management” that serves as confirmation the forms have been received.  This email includes a link for the patient to register for the TeleMedicine platform and acts as a second reminder for the appointment.  The link will instruct the patient on how to create a username and password for them to connect with a genetics provider the day of their appointment.
  3. Once a username and password is created, the patient can start creating their own profile and explore the TeleMedicine platform.  They will see their future appointment listed, but they will not be able to connect with the provider until the day and time of their appointment.
  4. The patient will receive a phone call a few days prior to the appointment, as a third reminder and to ensure that all is ready for the upcoming TeleMedicine appointment.  
  5. For any issues with the TeleMedicine platform or appointment, the patient is welcome to call the office directly to speak with the Practice Coordinator at 732.745.6659.
