Women's Imaging Center

A variety of comprehensive breast and osteoporosis studies are performed at The Women’s Imaging Center at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Our facility is certified by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and all our technologists are ARRT certified in mammography. The Women's Imaging Center is part of the Breast Center at Saint Peter's, the first breast center in Central New Jersey to earn a full three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program of the American College of Surgeons.

State-of-the-art screening mammography and diagnostic mammography services are offered using our two systems with computer-aided detection. Digital mammography assists with the early detection of breast cancer and allows for treatment at these early stages.

Saint Peter’s uses the Hologic®Genius™3D Mammography™ in its Women’s Imaging Center, technology that has been proven to detect 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to traditional 2D mammography. Genius 3D is the only mammogram that is FDA approved as superior for patients with dense breasts. In addition, Saint Peter’s uses the Hologic® SmartCurve™, a curved compression paddle that is shaped more like a woman’s natural breast, for a more comfortable mammography experience. Saint Peter’s is the only hospital in Middlesex County offering the combination of Genius 3D Mammography exams in conjunction with the SmartCurve comfort feature.

Diagnostic breast ultrasound is used to evaluate symptoms which include breast lumps or pain, or when an area of concern has been identified on a diagnostic mammogram. Services provided include ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy, cyst aspiration, and fine needle aspiration. The Women’s Imaging Center staff works closely with the Pathology Department at Saint Peter’s University Hospital when performing procedures such as aspirations in order to retrieve enough samples to make a diagnosis. This convenient access to the department during these procedures is a unique aspect of the service.

The Women’s Imaging Center staff also performs stereotactic-guided breast biopsy procedures. This minimally invasive procedure is performed by an interventional breast radiologist. The procedure uses digital imaging to pinpoint the exact location of the breast lesion from two different angles. This procedure is done with the utmost delicacy and precision to ensure a diagnosis and minimize discomfort.

Appointments for screening mammograms are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, on Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM and on one Saturday a month.
