Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pelvic floor rehabilitation is a specialized aspect of physical therapy which treats both men and women suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction. Pelvic floor problems can present as urinary or bowel incontinence, urinary frequency, and constipation, as well as pelvic pain issues. Pelvic floor therapists are trained in the use of biofeedback and special exercises, as well as manual techniques for orthopedic corrections and pain reduction.

Saint Peter’s specially trained pelvic floor physical therapists treat:

  • Urinary and fecal incontinence
  • Increased urinary frequency/overactive bladder
  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Vulvar pain syndromes
  • Separated pubic symphysis
  • Some forms of constipation
  • Post-surgical conditions – including prostatectomy, pelvic organ surgery, perineal lacerations/scarring, abdominal surgery, C-section pain/scarring
  • Pregnancy-related pain or instability/weakness
