Dr. Maureen Cernadas Joins Saint Peter’s Healthcare System Board of Governors
New Brunswick, N.J. – May 16, 2021 – Maureen Cernadas, MD, FACOG, an Obstetrics/Gynecology physician, has joined the Board of Governors of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System after having been recently elected as president of the Saint Peter’s University Hospital Medical and Dental Staff for the 2023-2025 term.

“I’m honored to represent my esteemed colleagues at Saint Peter’s and eager to contribute my voice to Saint Peter’s Healthcare System’s Board of Governors,” said Dr. Cernadas. “My overarching goal is to have an impact on the health and wellbeing of the organization where I’ve dedicated a better part of my medical career.”

In her role as Medical and Dental Staff president, Dr. Cernadas will lead physician efforts to ensure best practices for clinical care, helping to maintain Saint Peter’s high level of quality care, and bringing forth any recommendations or concerns voiced by her fellow physicians.

“Dr. Cernadas is a valued member of Saint Peter’s medical staff, a physician whose caring goes beyond the expertise inherent in the medical care provided to her patients,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, FACHE, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. “Anyone who knows Dr. Cernadas can attest to the lasting relationships she has cultivated with her patients, many of them lasting a lifetime.”

One such example is a friendship that developed between Dr. Cernadas and her former college roommate whose baby girl she delivered twenty years ago. As the baby grew up, the adults’ friendship continued to thrive with Dr. Cernadas becoming a friend to the entire family. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the child, now a senior at Virginia Tech, reached out to Dr. Cernadas who had become like an aunt to her and proposed they collaborate on an engineering project that ultimately created over 300 masks from sterile recyclable material at a time when the hospital’s much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) was in short supply.

“I’m looking forward to the perspective Dr. Cernadas will bring to Saint Peter’s Board of Governors considering the many years she’s been at Saint Peter’s dating back to her medical training. She’s a great partner and I look forward to collaborating with her in this new role,” added Hirsch.
Dr. Cernadas is a senior physician and managing partner at Brunswick Hills Obstetrics & Gynecology/Axia Women’s Health and has been a physician on staff at Saint Peter’s University Hospital for 27 years. She is a member of the American Medical Association, The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and a fellow at the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Dr. Cernadas completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and her medical training at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
