Saint Peter’s Healthcare System Welcomes Brittany Spanos as Executive Director of Community Outreach and Diversity Officer
New Brunswick, N.J. – May 22, 2023 – Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, the parent company of Saint Peter’s University Hospital, has announced the appointment of Brittany Spanos to the position of executive director of Community Outreach and diversity officer. Guided by the organization’s Catholic mission, Spanos will assist the inclusion and diversity efforts within the Saint Peter’s organization and throughout the community it serves.

“Saint Peter’s has a century’s old legacy of serving those most in need within the community,” said Spanos. “I look forward to supporting Saint Peter’s Catholic mission and its commitment to addressing social determinants of health through action while consistently creating safe spaces and a culture of belonging wherever the footprints of our outreach extend.”

Spanos was recognized for developing a racial equity toolkit for the Municipality of Princeton. In 2021, she received the Engaging Local Government Leaders Top 100 Influencer’s Award. Coming from a blended household, Spanos knows first-hand what it’s like to experience prejudice and adversity. It was the struggle to find her place in society that inspired her to educate others and promote the tenet that diversification leads to growth.

“As a faith-based institution providing care for more than 116 years, Saint Peter’s is an institution woven into the fabric of the diverse community it serves, recognizing and honoring the many different backgrounds from which our patients, employees and physicians come,” said Saint Peter’s President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie D. Hirsch, FACHE. “We remain focused on creating an environment of mutual support at Saint Peter’s, working together to enhance the lives of those we serve by ensuring access to care, regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background. We welcome Brittany to Saint Peter’s and look forward to the contributions she’ll make in developing and strengthening relationships that advance Saint Peter’s mission of providing humble service to all.”

A graduate of Rutgers University, Spanos received a master’s degree in Labor and Employment Relations (MLER) with a concentration in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, graduating summa cum laude while raising her three daughters amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As an undergraduate at Rutgers, she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies and was a member of The National Society of Collegiate Honors, Tau Sigma, and Phi Theta Kappa.
