Saint Peter’s Healthcare System Announces New Medical Executive Committee Leadership
August 19, 2025

New Brunswick, N.J. – August 19, 2025 – Saint Peter’s Healthcare System has announced the new leaders of its Medical Executive Committee for the 2025-2027 term. Naveen Mehrotra, MD, MPH, will serve as president with James E. Gervasoni Jr., PhD, MD, MBA, FACS, as vice president, and William J. Lowe III, MD, FACOG, as treasurer. The Medical Executive Committee plays a vital role at Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, shaping clinical policies, procedures, and guidelines that impact patient care while also guiding the operations of the medical staff.
“These newly elected leaders reflect a stellar combination of clinical expertise, strong leadership, and keen business acumen; traits that reinforce Saint Peter’s legacy of quality care while nurturing operational improvements that will guide Saint Peter’s into the future,” said Saint Peter’s Healthcare System President and CEO Leslie D. Hirsch, FACHE.
Dr. Naveen Mehrotra, a board-certified pediatrician, is currently president of the Medical Staff at Saint Peter’s University Hospital and in this role now serves as a member of the Saint Peter’s Healthcare System Board of Governors. He is also an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Rutgers University. With over 25 years in the field, he has built a robust practice—My Whole Child Pediatrics—with 20 providers in 20 locations.
Dr. Mehrotra serves as a proud advocate on behalf of his colleagues as a member of the Academy of Pediatrics of New Jersey and the Medical Society of New Jersey, helping private practitioners understand their administrative responsibilities with a focus on easing various aspects of practice management. Practicing in central New Jersey, an area with one of the highest concentrations of South Asians in the state, Dr. Mehrotra was inspired by members of his own family to establish the Shri Krishna Nidhi (SKN) Foundation, a community-based non-profit that addresses the specific healthcare needs of this demographic. He believes that education at the community level is critical in the quest to eliminate health disparities.
The SKN Foundation is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to promote total wellness through education. Members of the South Asian diaspora often experience radical health disparities with regards to access to care, service utilization and quality, and outcomes. Alongside evidence of chronic disease burdens that include heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cancer, there is also a poorer understanding of disease prevention due to limited engagement with the broader healthcare system.
Dr. Mehrotra believes that combining lifestyle modification and aggressive compliance with medical treatment ultimately leads to better health outcomes by limiting risk factors in the first place. He frequently delivers presentations to educate children, families, and healthcare providers to help improve patient care and compliance. Working with Saint Peter’s leadership and physicians, he was integral in helping to establish the SKN South Asian Diabetes Center at Saint Peter’s, which serves as a resource center for South Asians who are affected by diabetes.
Dr. James E. Gervasoni first began his career at Saint Peter’s as chair of the Department of Surgery. He was instrumental in launching the robotic surgery program at Saint Peter’s and performed its first general surgery robotics case in December 2011. As a skilled surgeon, his clinical expertise has contributed to the high-quality patient care and technical innovation that defines Saint Peter’s.
In addition to his role as vice president of the medical staff, Dr. Gervasoni serves as the Surgical Residency Site director through Saint Peter’s affiliation with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He has lectured to numerous professional organizations, enhancing Saint Peter’s mission to deliver superior, research-informed care.
Dr. William J. Lowe III is the vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, where he also serves as medical director of the Mary V. O’Shea Birth Center and of Outpatient Quality and Informatics. He is also chair of the hospital’s Credentialing Committee. Dr. Lowe’s career at Saint Peter’s began as an OB/GYN resident, graduating in 1993, and then returning a decade later to join the staff as a hospitalist.
Dr. Lowe takes great pride in educating and mentoring healthcare professionals at all levels, including residents, experienced physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff. His commitment to collaborative patient care has earned him numerous awards at Saint Peter’s including the Physician Partnership Award, Physician of the Month, and Resident Teacher of the Year. He also holds academic appointments at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Saint George’s Medical School.
