Meet Dr. David Jacob, Chair, Department of Department of Medicine

Dr. Jacob first came to Saint Peter’s in 1986 when he was accepted into the Internal Medicine Residency Program co-sponsored by Saint Peter’s and Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center (now Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital). After graduating from medical residency, he completed a cardiology fellowship with a subspecialty in non-invasive nuclear cardiology, transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography at Deborah Heart and Lung in Browns Mills, NJ. He then joined West Coast Cardiology Associates/Suncoast Cardiology Associates in Pinellas Park, FL, as a managing partner.

He returned to Saint Peter’s in 2000 as a member of the hospital’s cardiology staff. During his 25-year tenure at Saint Peter’s, Dr. Jacob has served in many capacities, including section chief of Cardiology and director of Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. He also served as associate chair of the Department of Medicine from March 2011 until he was appointed interim chair in 2023.

Dr. Jacob, who is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and nuclear cardiology, has been a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick since 2001. At Saint Peter’s, he serves as a faculty instructor of the same Internal Medicine Residency Program from which he graduated. Dr. Jacob is also a fellow of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Boston University in Massachusetts and his graduate studies at Universidad Del Noreste Tempico in Mexico, conducting his clinical rotations at Prince George Hospital-University of Maryland Medical School in Cheverly, MD, and at Brookdale Hospital-Downstate Medical Center in New York City.
