Lung Cancer Treatment with CyberKnife®

                                                                                                                                        Lung Cancer eGuide
The CyberKnife System is the only fully robotic radiation delivery system. The system delivers uniquely angled radiation beams from more than 1,200 possible positions with precise  accuracy. When treating lung cancer, standard radiation delivery systems usually result in overexposure of radiation to healthy lung tissue because a large area must be treated to account for movement of the tumor due to breathing.
CyberKnife identifies the exact location of the tumor, tracking the tumor’s movement so the patient can breathe normally and damage to any surrounding healthy tissue is avoided during treatment. Included in the many benefits of CyberKnife for the treatment of lung cancer are:
  •     Little or no pain
  •     It's non-invasive nature
  •     No large incisions
  •     Minimal side effects
  •     An outpatient procedure
  •     Five or fewer treatments.

At Saint Peter’s University Hospital, the  CyberKnife program is led by a team of multidisciplinary physicians and healthcare providers who provide patients with comprehensive and cutting edge treatment or our patients.
