Meet Dr. Anita K. Mehta

Anita K. Mehta, DO, MS, is a board-certified neurologist and epileptologist and medical director of the Stroke Program at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Dr. Mehta brings years of experience in stroke care, neurology, epilepsy, and clinical research to Saint Peter’s. 

Dr. Mehta earned her undergraduate degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University and her medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her neurology residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by a Neurophysiology/Epilepsy Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Mehta has held several leadership and clinical positions in neurology and stroke care. She previously served as director of stroke at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. 

Dr. Mehta also earned a master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She has participated as a sub-investigator in clinical drug trials involving Myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune disorder where the immune system blocks communication between nerves and muscles. She has published research on sarcoid neuropathy, neurosarcoidosis, trigeminal neuralgia, and peripheral neuropathy.

Her clinical interests include stroke; migraines; peripheral neuropathy; dementia; and epilepsy, which includes post-stroke epilepsy psychogenic seizures and women’s issues in epilepsy. She is recognized for building strong relationships with her patients and helping them achieve the best possible quality of life through compassionate, individualized care.
