Health Fair and Food Truck Event for Patients and the Community
Saint Peter’s Family Health Center partners with Unity Square and Elijah’s Promise in Connecting with the Community

New Brunswick, N.J. – May 8, 2023 – Saint Peter’s Family Health Center, part of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, hosted a health fair and food truck event for Saint Peter’s patients and community members in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. The event was held Friday, May 5 at Saint Peter’s Family Health Center, located at 123 How Lane in New Brunswick, NJ.

Saint Peter’s partnered with Elijah’s Promise, a nonprofit striving to break the cycles of poverty by alleviating hunger. The Elijah’s Promise food truck stopped by Saint Peter’s Family Health Center and distributed hot meals on a first come, first served basis to patients. Elijah’s Promise and Saint Peter’s Family Health Center are collaborating to raise awareness about the importance of accessibility to affordable, nutritious food and the resources available to patients in the community. Saint Peter’s also partnered with Unity Square Community Center, a community support initiative of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, to give 250 grocery orders to community members.

“This event helps Saint Peter’s connect with our community so we can ultimately address the issues that concern them—whether it’s access to nutritional food, education, safe housing, a clean environment and more. We’re proud and privileged to serve a diverse patient population at Saint Peter’s Family Health Center, many of whom face socioeconomic challenges. By addressing their concerns and other social determinants of health, we hope to reduce disparities and create a healthier community,” said Alma Ratcliffe, MD, vice president and chief clinical transformation officer for Saint Peter’s Healthcare System.

Other activities at Saint Peter’s Family Health Center included health and resource screenings, giveaways for adults and children, COVID-19 education materials including free at-home test kits, recipes and nutrition information, and on-site support from Saint Peter’s clinicians and employees. Saint Peter’s, in partnership with Elijah’s Promise, held a similar health fair event this past March.

Saint Peter’s Family Health Center offers primary and preventive health care for children, adults, and expectant women with almost 60,000 visits annually. The Center is undergoing an extensive expansion that will offer more healthcare services to patients, along with a food market and other resources.
