Commited to a Culture of Nursing Excellence
Magnet

The Magnet Recognition Program® by the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association is the most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. It is the gold standard for hospital nursing. Organizations that achieve Magnet® recognition are part of an esteemed group that demonstrates superior nursing practices and outcomes.
Saint Peter’s University Hospital attained Magnet® designation for the seventh consecutive time, this time receiving Magnet with Distinction™, a testament to its continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice. The ANCC’s Magnet with Distinction designation was only introduced in January 2025 and celebrates hospitals and healthcare organizations that exceed the scoring thresholds required to attain Magnet designation. It raises the bar to recognize top-tier organizations that have achieved the highest level of nursing excellence while addressing emerging challenges. These hospitals serve as exemplary role models for nursing excellence and for creating an environment of care that improves patient outcomes.
Saint Peter’s is one of only five hospitals worldwide to receive Magnet designation for seven consecutive terms. This recent designation was awarded after an intense three-day survey by nursing experts.
Saint Peter’s first received Magnet designation in 1998. Research shows that patients who stay in Magnet hospitals benefit from many positive outcomes, including fewer falls, bed sores and infections. Magnet hospitals consistently provide the highest quality patient care.

Every year the Saint Peter’s Family celebrates the nurses who have completed undergraduate, graduate and doctoral nursing programs during a graduation ceremony.
Beacon

The Beacon Award for Excellence is a testament to the extensive training, expertise and patient-centered care that are the hallmarks of our nurses at Saint Peter’s. Conferred by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), it is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments. It recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Saint Peter’s University Hospital and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital have earned the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). This is the seventh Beacon Award for the ICU and the second for the PICU.

Daisy

Nominate a Nurse for the Daisy Award
Each month a Saint Peter’s nurse is awarded The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. This international award program recognizes nurses who along with clinical skill demonstrate great compassion for their patients. Saint Peter’s is proud to be among the thousands of healthcare organizations in 22 countries that recognize Daisy nurses. The Daisy Award was created in memory of Patrick Barnes, and in tribute to the team of nurses who took care of him, by his family.
The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) Award

Nominate a Healthcare Professional for the BEE Award
The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) Award recognizes and celebrates non-nurse healthcare professionals who work alongside nurses to provide exceptional patient care. Recipients of the BEE Award demonstrate a commitment to providing exceptional care, often going above and beyond to meet the needs of patients and their families.
Celebrating achievement
In addition to the many recognition events hosted by units and departments, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System gathers once a year to host a graduation ceremony to celebrate all nursing staff members who have graduated with associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degrees.
