Magnet

The Magnet Recognition Program® by the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association is the most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. It is the gold standard for hospital nursing. Organizations that achieve Magnet recognition are part of an esteemed group that demonstrates superior nursing practices and outcomes.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital achieved Magnet status for 2020-2024, making it one of only 5 hospitals worldwide to receive this designation for six consecutive terms. This recent designation was awarded after an intense three-day survey by nursing experts. Saint Peter’s first received Magnet designation in 1998. Research shows that patients who stay in Magnet hospitals benefit from many positive outcomes, including fewer falls, bed sores and infections. Magnet hospitals consistently provide the highest quality patient care.

nurse graduation
Every year the Saint Peter’s Family celebrates the nurses who have completed undergraduate, graduate and doctoral nursing programs during a graduation ceremony.

Beacon

The Beacon Award for Excellence is a testament to the extensive training, expertise and patient-centered care that are the hallmarks of our nurses at Saint Peter’s. Conferred by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), it is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments. It recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.

Saint Peter’s Adult Intensive Care Unit is a six-time recipient of the Beacon Award and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a three-time Beacon Award recipient. Saint Peter’s Cardiac Progressive Care Unit received its first Beacon Award in 2018.

Daisy

Each month a Saint Peter’s nurse is awarded The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses.  This international award program recognizes nurses who along with clinical skill demonstrate great compassion for their patients. Saint Peter’s is proud to be among the thousands of healthcare organizations in 22 countries that recognize Daisy nurses. The Daisy Award was created in memory of Patrick Barnes, and in tribute to the team of nurses who took care of him, by his family.

Celebrating achievement

In addition to the many recognition events hosted by units and departments, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System gathers once a year to host a graduation ceremony to celebrate all nursing staff members who have graduated with bachelor, master’s or doctorate degrees.
