Saving Lives Through Innovation: The Elizabeth and Joseph DeMarco Adult Intensive Care Unit

Reimagining Critical Care

Saint Peter’s University Hospital’s Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) serves as the critical care hub for our community. Built in 1989, our current 11,000 square foot ICU has provided lifesaving medical, cardiac and surgical intensive care services to thousands of patients. After 35+ years of operation, this vital facility requires comprehensive modernization to meet contemporary care standards and accommodate advancing medical technology.

This $27 million renovation is currently underway and will transform Saint Peter’s ICU into a state-of-the-art critical care environment spanning approximately 25,000 square feet, covering nearly the entirety of the hospital’s fifth floor. The modernized facility will maintain 24 ICU beds but reorganize them into two 12-bed wings operating as a unified ICU for all medical, cardiac and surgical intensive care services.
